Interdisciplinary Studies approaches to increase student achievement.

Interdisciplinary studies focuses on a topic that includes sources from two or more disciplines, where studies can actively engage with a guided focus gear towards a specific topic in a particular area. It is important to understand how common elements of collaborations can help create disciplinary research to be successful. Its primary purpose is to find different ways to resolve problems, which does come through great communication between each disciplinary team. Many of our world problems today stem from an extremely complex viewpoint, which requires the input and knowledge of experts from multiple disciplines to remove barriers in the precise area of race and ethnicity. One major problem that can be recognized in society today, is the discrimination against minorities individuals when it comes to advancement the progression or advance within society. With the support of an education discipline, which is the process of transforming knowledge and skills, when we implement the objectives, while political science discipline provides a deep understanding of the cultural and historical context of political decisions, social movements, and cultural shifts over time to clearly see how the perspective of governments and politics has impacted our communities. With these interdisciplinary approaches we can find an effective solution to the problem of social justice that as we work together to minimize discrimination against minorities.

Why Teach Science with an Interdisciplinary Approach: History, Trends, and Conceptual Frameworks

By looking more in depth into the process of old and modern day Jim Crow laws that impact minorities in the educational system. Our modern educational system has not always been what it is considered to be today, where today many people would consider that the United States of America to “equal education of all” which most may think depending on who is being asked. Looking back in our nation history in our educational system has been involved many hiccups regarding race relations with varies races. Interdisciplinary instruction relies on multiple content cogs working together to develop student knowledge, problem-solving skills, self-confidence, self-efficacy and a passion for learning while supporting students' various learning styles, diverse backgrounds, interests, talents, backgrounds, and values. By focusing on providing interdisciplinary and project-based learning opportunities, student engagement in learning increases, whereby a culture of student-directed learning becomes the norm, not the exception. Shifting instruction and assessment from siloed content area learning to interdisciplinary will provide educators and students unique opportunities to explore learning that is both relevant and interesting to them - cultivating an environment that excites learners and sparks continuous curiosity. Interdiscplinarity is ‘a means of solving problems and answering questions that cannot be satisfactorily addressed using single methods or approaches’ (Klein 1990:196). Using different disciplinary perspectives to reflect on the relationships between sets of knowledge is a useful way into a broader appreciation of how knowledge boundaries can be spanned to enable new understandings.
